Getting to the end of the school year can feel like finishing a long race. The end is in sight, but your energy is low. You push hard and make it through, but when you are done, you are tired. Everyone needs a breather. So when thinking about whether or not to enroll your child in summer tutoring, it can be difficult to make that commitment. We all want a break! Common sense and natural law seem to support the need for rest and rejuvenation. Research data is even divided on this topic. Yet, I will push you to enroll your student in summer tutoring. Why? Every student I work with is seeing me as a reading tutor because he or she is behind in reading. Usually, this gap is due to a specific learning disability. Summer is a fantastic time to build forward, without the exhaustion of a regular school year schedule and the extra curricular activities most kids participate in. My students can truly benefit from even three hours a week of intensive summer tutoring. We will likely make good progress forward, and it is certain we won't take steps back. So let's get some summer tutoring set up!
